The New Grand Hyatt Deer Valley – A Journey in Hospitality Photography
When I stepped into the brand-new Grand Hyatt Deer Valley, I knew this shoot would be special. The mix of modern luxury, warm mountain aesthetics, and impeccable design made this hotel a dream to photograph. From the elegant guest rooms to the inviting common spaces, every corner was meticulously designed to offer guests an unforgettable stay.
But beyond the beauty of the space itself, this project was a great reminder of why hospitality photography plays such a crucial role in the success of luxury hotels. High-end properties invest heavily in architecture, interiors, and guest experiences—so why settle for anything less than stunning imagery to showcase them?
The Power of Hospitality Photography

First Impressions Matter
In today’s digital-driven world, a guest’s first impression of a hotel happens long before they set foot in the lobby. They browse websites, scroll through social media, and explore online reviews, all while forming an opinion based on the images they see. If the photography doesn’t capture the hotel’s atmosphere, elegance, and comfort, potential guests may look elsewhere.
Creating a Compelling Brand Identity
For luxury hotels, high-quality images do more than just fill a website or marketing brochure—they tell a story. They convey emotion, showcase the level of service, and invite potential guests to imagine themselves experiencing the space. My goal with every shoot is to create images that align with the hotel’s brand identity and elevate its market presence. In the case of the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley, I had to acquire and learn the brand guidelines and preferences. This took some time, but paid off in the end with happy clients and a consistency across brand platforms.
A Visual Tour of the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
I had the privilege of photographing every aspect of this stunning property. Here’s how I approached each area:
The Lobby & Common Spaces
The lobby is the heart of any hotel—it sets the tone for the guest experience. At the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley, the lobby features soaring ceilings, modern lighting, and cozy seating areas that exude warmth. I used natural light to highlight the inviting textures and design elements, ensuring the space looked as welcoming in photos as it does in person.

Guest Rooms & Suites
Capturing guest rooms is all about showcasing comfort and elegance. For this shoot, I focused on the cozy yet luxurious design elements—from plush bedding to the breathtaking mountain views through floor-to-ceiling windows. I aimed for a balance between wide shots that show the spacious layouts and detail shots that highlight the thoughtful amenities.

Restaurants & Coffee Shops
Hospitality photography isn’t just about rooms—it’s also about the dining experience. The Grand Hyatt’s on-site restaurants offer a mix of fine dining and casual elegance, and I wanted to capture that atmosphere. Whether it was the warm glow of the bar at sunset or the morning rush at the coffee shop, I worked with the lighting and composition to make the food and space feel as inviting as possible.

Fitness & Wellness Spaces
Luxury travelers expect top-tier fitness and wellness facilities, so these spaces deserve just as much attention as the rooms. The gym at the Grand Hyatt is sleek and spacious, with modern equipment and large windows overlooking the natural landscape. I used wide-angle shots to emphasize openness and movement, giving potential guests a feel for what they can expect during their stay.

Ballroom & Event Spaces
Event spaces can be a huge selling point for hotels, especially for weddings and corporate gatherings. The Grand Hyatt’s ballrooms are versatile, with stunning chandeliers and customizable lighting options. Photographing these areas required capturing both the grandeur and functionality, ensuring event planners could visualize their next big event in these rooms.

My Approach to Hotel Photography
Lighting & Composition
Lighting is everything in hotel photography. I always aim to work with natural light whenever possible, but in dimly lit spaces, I use soft, controlled artificial lighting to maintain a natural feel. Composition is equally critical—I look for angles that showcase depth, symmetry, and the flow of the space. Most of the time I am needing to move furniture, rugs, art etc.. in order to get the right look in camera. To the naked eye looking at it, the layout can sometimes look strange. But i have to confidence to make those calls and then have my client look at the monitor. Then they understand!

Storytelling Through Imagery
A great hospitality photo isn’t just about a well-lit room—it’s about the story it tells. I approach each shot with the mindset of a guest: What would I want to see? What details matter? Whether it’s a perfectly fluffed pillow, an ambient-lit bar, or a sunlit lobby, every image should evoke a feeling of comfort and luxury.
Overcoming Challenges
Every shoot has its challenges, and hotels present a unique set of hurdles—changing light conditions, guests moving through spaces, and the need for perfection in every frame. At the Grand Hyatt, I worked strategically to time my shots for optimal lighting and collaborated with the hotel team to ensure every space was styled perfectly before shooting. This was challenging at times especially with a brand new hotel! Trying to get lights to turn on and off was sometimes a 30 to 90 min process. There was just a lot going on in every direction, and not everyone was focused on photography. It’s a learning curve figuring out how to deal with this, and still accomplish your shot list for the day.
Why Professional Hotel Photography is Worth the Investment
Attracting More Bookings
A hotel’s online presence is its biggest marketing tool. High-quality imagery leads to better conversion rates, whether it’s through direct bookings on a website or increased engagement on social media. Investing in a hotel photographer ensures that every image aligns with the hotel’s brand and marketing strategy.
Supporting Marketing & Advertising Efforts
From website design and print brochures to social media and ad campaigns, professional hospitality photography provides a cohesive, high-end visual identity that reinforces brand perception. The right images can make the difference between a potential guest choosing your hotel or opting for a competitor.
Consistency Accross All Platforms
Many hotels make the mistake of using a mix of inconsistent imagery—some professional, some amateur, some outdated. A well-planned professional shoot provides a library of cohesive, high-quality images that can be used across all marketing platforms, ensuring a consistent and polished brand presence.
